Abstract

In this work, three types of scintillation materials, Acridine orange, Eosin blue and Eosin yellow, were used to act as liquid scintillation detectors. They can be used to detect ionizing radiation, especially that of high Linear Energy Transfer (LET). This work determines the optimum concentration for each of the investigated materials to be 0.2 g/l dissolved in Methanol, added to a solution of Anthracene in Xylene of the concentration of 1.4 g/l and a solution of POPOP in Xylene of the concentration of 0.2 g/l. All samples were irradiated using radioactive sources 241Am, 137Cs and60Co.

Keywords: Liquid scintillation detectors; LET; Chemical quenching; Color quenching; Acridine; Eosin.
